MOCKSVILLE — Rescue teams have located the body of a 31-year-old Yadkinville man who drowned at the Lake Myers Family Campground roughly six miles west of Mocksville.
Detective K.M. Shuping of the Davie County Sheriff’s Office said the body was found about 3:45 p.m. today in the campground’s lake.
The man was first reported missing to authorities about 2:40 a.m. today. A Rowan County Rescue Squad dive team arrived at the campground about 11 this morning to help in the search, according to Eddie Cress, assistant chief for the Rowan Rescue Squad,
Searchers employed sonar equipment and a cadaver dog, besides relying on divers.
Shuping acknowledged earlier in the day that authorities were not 100 percent sure the man was in the lake.
He said the man who drowned was visiting his sister and her husband, who were staying at the campground Friday night.
The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of more family members.
Lake Myers Family Campground, about 24 miles from Salisbury, is located west of Interstate 40 near the intersection of U.S. 64 West and Fred Lanier Road.
