Reallocating several new faces at Salisbury Academy, the head of school says the new team will better serve the needs of students and families.
Hiring three new professionals with experience in accounting, marketing, development and communications and reallocating existing staff, Head of School Diane Fisher plans to increase communication, development effort and accessibility of staff to families.
“I hope parents always feel someone is available to help them,” she said. “Both home and school communication is a key to success for the students.”
Salisbury Academy is an independent, co-educational school for grades junior kindergarten through eighth grade, encouraging students to be life-long learners, develop strong character, serve their community and deepen their faith.
Shannon McCoy, the new business manager, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from Catawba College.
She worked as an accountant for McCoy & Hillard CPAs, P.A., for 10 years.
“To become a member of the Salisbury Academy family is a great honor,” she said. “I am excited about the opportunity to be a part of an organization that follows its mission statement in all that it does for the betterment of the students and the community.”
Chris Fowler will serve as director of marketing and development.
He served as director of Young Life in Rowan County for 10 years, working with youth and in marketing and development.
Fowler’s most recently worked at North Hills Christian School as a teacher and the athletic director. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in sociology and a master’s of divinity.
“I am excited to serve in a school that is devoted to excellence, from academics to extra-curricular activities,” he said. “The staff, teachers, and parents have clearly worked hard to make Salisbury Academy a great school and I am thrilled with the opportunity to further raise support and awareness.”
The position of assistant to the head of school will be combined with director of communications and public relations and will be filled by Jill Wagoner.
With 12 years experience in communications, public relations and marketing, Wagoner has worked for both the Salisbury Post and Miller Davis, Inc.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies with a minor in journalism.
“I’m looking forward to using my experience to enhance internal and external communication for such a great organization,” Wagoner said.
In the newly created position of academic administrator, Beverly Fowler will add to her responsibilities as lower school division head and will assume the role of director of admissions.
“This new role will provide support for the ever-changing, growing teacher needs,” Fisher said. “The world is changing so quickly today; it is imperative that we focus energy toward preparing our students for the changes.
“With Fowler’s academic role at the school, her additional role as director of admissions seems the perfect fit.”
Fisher said the new faces and roles will enhance the services Salisbury Academy provides students and families.
“We have been very intentional about providing professional development for faculty and staff,” she said. “They enjoy learning as well as teaching. That creates a community of learners that is fresh and fluid.
“This year, we want to provide more opportunities for parents to share in the learning as well and the new staff will bring an additional skill set to help our team accomplish this goal.”
