‘Music from the Porch’
COOLEEMEE — Cooleemee native Selena Fowler Barker will perform live in concert at the Gospel, Worship & Praise Concert to be held on Saturday, July 7, the second Music from the Porch benefit for the Cooleemee Historical Association this summer.
Admission is $5 at the gate, and is free for children 12 and younger. The Cook Shack will open for hot dogs, drinks and more at 5 p.m. Music begins at 6 p.m. Bring a lawn chair.
The line up includes bluegrass gospel from Broke-N-Lonesome, followed by Selena, followed by Crucifixed, whose lead vocalist Stephen Allred grew up on Potneck Road and graduated from West Rowan High School.
Tastebuds Art Exhibit
Now through Aug. 31, Tastebuds will host an exhibit of Rail Walk Studio artists including Ingrid Erickson, Sharon Forthofer, Karen Frazer, Annette Ragone Hall, Elizabeth McAdams, Liese Sadler and Marietta Foster Smith.

Nature Day Camp
Dan Nicholas Park will hold a Nature Day Camp next week, July 9–11, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. for rising 4th–8th graders. Topics include water quality, fishing, animal keeper tag-along, art and animal photography.

Christian Metal night
The Inn is geared up for another popular Christian Metal music nights tomorrow, Friday, July 6.
Friday’s music, beginning at 4 p.m., features Security In Wisdom, Fall of Goliath, A Heart Divided, I For One, Ekklasia, Silent No Longer, Instead of Sleep, The Helper, Signals The Sky, Take Heart and Beacons.
The regular Saturday night music event includes The Follow Me Tour with Travis Hash and Arms of Mercy.

‘Voices that Change’
First Baptist Church of Salisbury presents vocal impressionist Michael Kelley in “Voices that Change,” a fundraising benefit for the Family Crisis Council.
With imitations ranging from Ray Charles to Ed Sullivan to Kermit the Frog to Elvis Presely to Walter Brennan, Kelley entertains with impressions, nostalgia and personal testimony.

‘9 to 5’ auditions
CONCORD — Old Courthouse Theatre announces auditions on July 15-16 for “9 to 5: The Musical,” music and Lyrics by Dolly Parton and based on the 20th Century Fox picture.
Registration is from 7-8 p.m. and auditions are from 7-9 p.m. and will consist of a cold read from the script and 8-10 bars of a prepared song (bring sheet music for accompanist). Wear comfortable shoes and clothing for dance/movement audition.
Ten women and nine men are needed, plus ensemble men and women.

Catawba alumnus stages play
“A Raisin in the Sun” will be offered by Evening Star Productions, Inc., a Charlotte-based production company founded and operated by 2011 Catawba College alumnus Tony Mullins of Charlotte. The production will run at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14 and July 20 and 21 at the Duke Energy Theater at Spirit Square in uptown Charlotte.
Cast members include Tony Mullins as Walter Lee Younger, Jr.; Myrna Chase as Lena (Mama) Younger; Tiffany Renea as Ruth Younger; Donna Steel as Beneatha younger; Robert Jackson as Travis; Rico Tinnin as George Murchinson and Bobo; Kineh N’Gaojia as Joseph Asagai; and Nathan Morris as Karl Linder. Mikey Farrell serves as stage manager for the production.
Tickets, available at the door, are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors, 65 and older, and students.
