Hailing from the Charlotte area and playing Salisbury for the first time, Junque Gallery debuts at The Blue Vine on Friday night from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Junque Gallery’s music is reminiscent of many jazz, blues, and funk groups of the past and creates a diverse sound often refered to as Junque Music.
The six-man band includes Rick Almond, whom Salisbury music fans know from the bands Motel Soap and The Brubakers. There is a $5 cover. The Blue Vine is located at 209 S. Main St., 704-797-0093, www.thebluevine.com
Faith Fourth of July
FAITH — The week-long July Fourth festivities have begun in Faith and continue nightly through Wednesday, July 4, culminating in the famous fireworks display at 10:30 p.m. that night. Celebration of Liberty
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St., hosts a Community Celebration of Liberty on Sunday, July 1 at 11 a.m.
This annual worship service commemorates our nation’s independence and features special guests, a colorful display of our nation’s history, and a rousing medley of patriotic hymns led by brass, drum, and the St. John’s Choir and Men’s Chorus.
Kannapolis concert and fireworks
KANNAPOLIS — The Downtown Kannapolis Summer Entertainment Series on Friday, June 29 will feature a concert by the Charlotte Symphony, followed by fireworks. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Visit www.cityofkannapolis.com for details.
The Embers play BSL
The Embers will perform on Thursday, July 5 in downtown Salisbury as part of the 2012 Brick Street Live concert series. The concert will take place on East Fisher Street, with gates opening at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the gate the evening of the event.
Brick Street Live’s participating restaurants, including Benchwarmers, Cartucci’s, Chef Santos, The Salty Caper and Cooper’s The Gathering Place, will be open. Many of the restaurants will offer outdoor seating and service.

‘Wake up Leonardo’
The deadline is Friday, July 6 to sign up for Center for Faith & the Arts’ very first “Wake Up Leonardo” creation camp. Taking inspiration from the original Renaissance Man, students will receive quality arts instruction from local artists. The camp runs July 16-20.
Students may choose the visual arts track (painting, drawing, pottery, collage, creative writing with instructors Jessica Buckwalter, Andrea Sowle, Emily Bartsch and Karen Carpenter) or the performing arts track (acting, dance, voice, rhythm, handchimes with instructors Rick Smith, Matthew Newton, Lisa Boguslaw, Jennifer Drake and Lynne Harrell.)
Wake Up Leonardo will meet from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 16-20 at the Center for Faith & the Arts, 207 West Harrison St. Each arts track consists of four-course rotation, and a snack will be provided daily.
Cost is $75 per student for the week, and includes all snacks, supplies, and a camp t-shirt. Scholarships are available. The registration form and scholarship application are available at www.faithart. org.
Salisbury Ghost Walk

Rowan County night for ‘Tom Dooley’
WILKESBORO — July 21 is Rowan County night and all residents of Rowan County can present their driver’s license at the gate to get in for half price.
This is Wilkes Playmaker’s 12th season of “Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend.” Tickets may be purchased at www.wilkesplaymakers.com, at 336-838-7529 (leave a message and a representative will return the call promptly) or at the gate.
The show will be presented outdoors at the Forest’s Edge Amphitheatre off Hwy 421 North in historic Fort Hamby Park in partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of the Lake.
Performances begin at 8:30 p.m. and the gate begins selling tickets and accepting advance tickets at 7 p.m. Seats are not assigned, but staff will reserve seats for groups of 10 or more upon request.
West Rowan Championship Rodeo
CLEVELAND — West Rowan Championship Rodeo is back. Set aside Friday and Saturday, July 6-7 at 8 p.m. to see bull riding, wild horse riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, team roping and barrel racing at Livengood Arena, located at 875 Redmon Road in Cleveland.

July at Tweetsie
BLOWING ROCK — Cool Summer Nights return to Tweetsie for four straight Saturdays in July: 7, 14, 21 and 28, when the park will stay open late so that after a day of family fun, guests may ride the famed steam locomotive and see the park in a whole new light: moonlight.
Meet Bob the Builder™ on July 13-15 at this interactive sing-along performance. He will also be available to pose with kids and families for photos.
K-9s in Flight Frisbee[0xae]Dogs is a team of agile canines that jump, flip and catch flying discs in ways that defy gravity. They will perform live at Tweetsie each day July 21-29.

Renaissance Festival needs actors
CHARLOTTE — The Carolina Renaissance Festival, a combination of outdoor theater, circus, arts and crafts fair, jousting tournament and feast, will hold open auditions on Saturday, June 30 from 9 a.m.–noon at Ballantyne Arts Center, 11318 North Community House Road, Charlotte, on the second floor.
