Editorial: Candidates take stage

With the runoff election less than three weeks away, voters have another chance this evening to hear candidates in two important local races.
The forum at Carson High School features two Republican candidates vying for the 8th U.S. House race, Scott Keadle and Richard Hudson. Another part of the forum includes candidates seeking two seats on the Rowan County Board of Commissioners (Republicans Gus Andrews, Gene Miller, Mike Caskey and Craig Pierce, and Democrats Corey Hill and Ralph Walton). The program begins at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by Catawba College, the Post and the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce.
Because the runoff has a smaller slate of candidates than the earlier primary, the forum should give them more time in front of the microphone and include comments on a broader range of questions, including those suggested by Post readers. Voters should take this opportunity to get to know these candidates better before the July 17 runoff and the general election that follows.
