EAST SPENCER — New Life Community Church opened June 10, 118 at Hightown Road. Mayor Barbara Mallett participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The community-based church is part of the Church of the Living Christ Inc. Overseer and founder for COLC Inc. is the Rev. E. L. Gray. Gray installed New Life Community Church’s pastor, Carl W. Gray.

Fundraisers today

Mission Prayer Day
Salisbury Rowan County Missionary Union’s 131st annual Mission Prayer Day will be held at noon today, June 23, at Gethsemane Baptist Church. All missionaries are asked to wear white.
Fairview Heights
The annual Youth Rainbow Rally will be held at 3 p.m., today, June 23, at Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
The service consists of four speakers: Sister Tara White (orange), obedience; the Rev. Stephen Peoples of Greater Mt. Moriah (yellow), love; Minister Mike White of Dorsett Chapel (lime green), honor; Minister Tiffany Miller of Mt. Zion (pink), faith.

SPENCER — Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long St. Extension, will celebrate Men’s Day on Sunday, June 24 at 3 p.m.
The Rev. Dr. Leonzo Lynch, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Charlotte, will be the speaker. Lynch is the first vice president of the General Baptist State convention of NC and is an instructor for the Congress of Christian Education.
The 2012 Man of the Year will be announced, with music by an all-male choir under the direction of Keith Holland, Jerusalem’s minister of music. Men from local churches are invited to sing with the choir.

SPENCER — The Rhema Praise and Worship Choir of 117 Long Ferry Road, is celebrating their first anniversary Sunday, June 24 beginning at 3:30 p.m. There will be music and dancing. All choirs are welcome to attend.

CLEVELAND — Antioch Baptist Church, 968 Triplett Road, will host the Hattitude Program – “A Well Worn Hat is a Symbol of Style and Grace,” on Sunday, June 24, at 4 p.m.
Recognitions and prizes for hat ensembles will be given in several categories.

LANDIS — The Edwards Family from Salisbury will sing bluegrass gospel music and speak at Landis First Assembly Sunday, June 24 at 6 p.m. This local family was featured in a Salisbury Post front page article May 22. They performed recently on the pilot episode of “Bluegrass Road” on the Blue Highways TV network. The church is located at 302 E. Corriher St.
Christ UMC pork loins
The Christ United Methodist Men are preparing and selling pork loins at a cost of $20 for a half loin and $35 for a whole loin.

New Zion Baptist Church will hold its annual Youth Revival on Wednesday, June 27 through Friday, June 20 at 7 p.m. nightly.
On Wednesday and Thursday, guest speaker will be Pastor Shannon Jessup of Second New Bethel Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. The revival will conclude on Friday with a Youth Explosion featuring creative expressions in mime, singing and praise dancing. All area youth groups are invited.
Health, Wellness Fair
EAST SPENCER — The Town of East Spencer is sponsoring their first annual Health and Wellness Fair and Blood Drive at Shady Grove Baptist Church, 600 S.Long St.
On Saturday, June 30, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m., there will be free health and wellness checks. The blood drive is from 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
In partnership with RRMC, Dr. Kennedy will speak on arthritis, Dr. Sims on smoking cessation and Dr. Thomas on general health. RRMC will also providing free lipo-profiles, blood pressure checks, and diabetic testing. Note that the finger stick test for diabetes requires one to fast for at least two hours before testing.
