South Rowan’s American Legion team baseball team lost 5-4 to Stanly County at Montgomery Park on Wednesday.
Stanly (8-10, 6-7) scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the ninth against closer Austin Bracewell.
Parker Hubbard’s two-run single lifted South (4-13, 2-10) from a 3-2 deficit to a 4-3 lead.
Austin Holbrook and Aaron Bare pitched well for South.
After a four-game road swing, South is at home tonight against Wilkes, which picked up a big win against Concord on Wednesday.
Junior Legion
Rowan County’s Junior Legion team couldn’t overcome miscues and lost 3-2 at Lake Norman on Wednesday. Rowan was held to seven hits.
Riley Myers pitched well but took the loss. Caleb Poteat was the winning pitcher.
College softball
Western Carolina senior outfielder Erin Foster (West Rowan) and Campbell freshman shortstop Ericka Nesbitt (East Rowan) were named to the North Carolina All-State University team.
Nesbitt ranked second in the Big South Conference in batting (.402), hits (72), steals (23) and runs (42). She had 25 multi-hit games and seven games with three or more hits and made second team All-Big South.
Foster led Western Carolina with a .363 batting average, 66 hits, 18 homers and 54 RBIs. She had 22 mult-hit games and 15 multiple-RBI games and was first team All-Southern Conference.
Basketball camps
Falcon Basketball Camp for boys who will be grades in 2-8 will be held at West Rowan High from 9 to noon daily on July 23-26.
The cost is $50 for four days of fun and instruction from coach Mike Gurley and West players. There will be daily skill development, prizes and games. Campers receive a Falcon T-shirt. Contact Gurley at 704-798-2074 for information.
Carson girls elementary basketball camp will run July 23-25 from 8 a.m. until noon and is open to rising kindergarten girls through 5th-graders. Camp for middle school girls will be held on the same dates, with camp being held from 3:30-7:30 daily.

Tennis camp
The USTA-endorsed “Quick Start” tennis program will be offered in June and July through Salisbury Parks and Recreation.
The program uses a shortened court ad low compression balls to teach children how to the play tennis.
• Camp dates for ages 5-7 are June 25-July 18 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-3:45 p.m. at the City Park courts. The fee is $65 per student.
• Camp dates for ages 8-10 are June 26-July 19 on Tuesdays and Thursday from 3-3:45 at City Park. The fee is $65. PTR professional Wayne Zurowski is the instructor.

Local golf
In the 45th N.C. Junior Championship being held in Charlotte, Isabella Rusher shot 79 in stroke play qualifying, and Lily Yatawara shot 86. Both advanced to match play.
Rusher won her first round of match play in 19 holes, but Yatawara lost 1-up.
In the boys division, Alex Nianouris shot 77 to qualify for match play and won his first two matches to advance to the round of 16.
In the eGolf Tour’s Spring Creek Classic held in Virginia, Will Collins (Salisbury) shot 74 in the first round.
