So can plays with the theme of “Six Feet Under” be funny?
Well, if they’re about a zombie apocalypse, drinking in a graveyard and a business designed to murder your husband, then yes.
They’re all part of Lee Street Theatre’s 10 Minute Original Play festival, opening Wednesday, June 6.
More than 40 plays were submitted from four states and seven were picked to be produced in this year’s festival, directed by Justin Dionne, who directed the award-winning “ Almost, Maine” for St. Thomas Players last year.
The plays include:
• “The Business of Six Feet Under Gardening” by Hailey Wade
• “Exit, Stage 4” by Katie Scarvey
• “Myrtle Beach” by Jenny Hubbard
• “Fly (Two Actually. Oh, and a corpse)” by Cale Evans
• “Poor Paddy” by Kurt Corriher
• “Pandemic Love Tips” by Bill Greene
• “Let’s Do It” by Andrea Rassler
18 local actors were cast in this year’s festival, including: Jacques Belliveau, Kurt Corriher, Sam Earnhardt, Cindi Graham, Robin Hendrick, Robert Jones, Becky Lippard, Rodney Lippard, Mary Ann McCubbin, Bob Paolino, James Parker, Gail Reynolds, Jason Roland, Bethany Sinnott, Dustin Stewart, Joanne Stewart, Tara Van Geon and Brittany Wear.
Light design is by Adam York, costumes are by Lisa Perone, props and set work by Jamison Middlemiss and stage management by Lizelle Restar.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, June 6-9, at Looking Glass Artist Collective, 405 N. Lee St.
Tickets are $10 and available at the door. There is no reserve seating, so arrive early to be assured of a seat.
The plays do contain language and content inappropriate for children.
