SALISBURY — Rowan Regional Medical Center will not be affected by layoffs announced Tuesday by Novant Health, which owns the Salisbury hospital.
Novant announced Tuesday it will eliminate 289 jobs, including 103 at Presbyterian Healthcare in Charlotte. Spokeswoman Robin Baltimore said no employees at Rowan Regional will lose their jobs.
The cuts come as part of Novant’s effort to make healthcare more affordable as reimbursement rates decline, charity care increases and people forego elective surgeries and other procedures to save money.
In a memo to employees, CEO Carl Armato said Novant will try to find other positions in the system for people who are laid off and will extend assistance to employees who cannot find open positions, including severance packages for those who qualify.
