SALISBURY — Two people were taken to the hospital today after a wreck on South Main Street. 
The two had no visible injuries but were taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center for evaluation, a Salisbury Police officer said.
The two-vehicle wreck involving a Ford Escape and a Hummer SUV happened around 11 a.m. in the 2300 block of South Main, in front of the Shell gas station.
The collision happened on the inside South bound lane of the four-lane road. 
Witnesses said both vehicles were traveling south when the Ford, traveling in the outside lane, suddenly made a U-turn and crossed in front of the Hummer.
The Hummer struck the Ford in the driver’s side and both vehicles traveled into the northbound lanes.
A police officer said marks on the road indicated the Ford slid sideways and increased speed during the attempted U-turn.
The Ford was heavily damaged on the drivers side, and emergency medical responders took both the driver and a passenger to the hospital. Police identified the driver as Dawn Tharr, of Hampton, Va. The name of the passenger was not available.
The investigating officer said charges are expected against Tharr.
The driver of the Hummer, identified as Martha Smith of Spencer, had no apparent injuries.
The Salisbury Police Department, Salisbury Fire Department, and Rowan EMS responded.
