Convicted felon accused of having handgun, threatening wife

SALISBURY — Deputies arrested a convicted felon Saturday after authorities said he was in possession of his wife’s handgun.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, officers were handling a domestic property pickup at Donald Simpson’s home on Buckshot Trail when they were notified that he had a gun.
Deputies said they were told Simpson was wearing the handgun in a holster on his hip in the yard. The report said Simpson also threatened to burn his house down with his wife inside.
The 47-year-old was convicted in 1990 of felony forgery, according to the Department of Corrections.
He was charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon and communicating threats.
Simpson was in jail Tuesday morning under a $50,000 bond.
