Motorists will encounter lane closures on Monroe Street and U.S. 29 in Salisbury next week as crews conduct resurfacing work. Adding a new layer of asphalt to the roads will improve safety, extend the life of the pavement and make the ride smoother for drivers.
On Tuesday, May 29, crews will resurface 0.5 miles of Monroe Street from South Long Street to Fulton Street. Lane closures will be in place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Weather permitting, the work on Monroe Street is expected to be complete that day.
On Wednesday, May 30, resurfacing work will begin on 1.8 miles of U.S. 29 from just south of Airport Road to the bridge over Jake Alexander Boulevard. Crews will put lane closures in place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each weekday. Weather permitting, the work is scheduled to be complete by June 15.
The project is part of a $757,032 contract with APAC-Atlantic Inc.
To prepare for the resurfacing work on U.S. 29, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close one lane of U.S. 29 near Rowan Mill Road to work on a storm drain on Monday, May 28.
While crews are working on these projects, NCDOT encourages motorists to go slow, avoid distractions, and pay attention to signs and flagmen as they travel through the area.
