Sapp installed as First Vice President
GREENSBORO — On April 25, at the 110th annual convention of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs-North Carolina (GFWC-NC) held at Embassy Suites in Greensboro, Georgann Athanaelos Sapp was installed as GFWC-NC First Vice President and will serve in the 2012-2014 administration.
She is also a member and current president of the Kannapolis Woman’s Club, a member and past president of the Kannapolis Junior Woman’s Club and a former member of the A.L. Brown Juniorette Club.
Sapp has served the GFWC-NC for 21 years and has served as GFWC-NC Junior Chaplain 2010-2012, GFWC-NC Director of Juniors 2008-2010, GFWC-NC Assistant Director of Juniors and Director of Juniors Elect 2006-2008, GFWC-NC President’s Special Project Chairman 2004-2006, GFWC-NC Junior Secretary 2002-2004, GFWC-NC Junior Conservation Department Chair 2000-2002, Juniorette Advisory Committee Junior Chair and served on the Juniorette Advisory Committee for many years.
She has also been awarded the GFWC-NC Juniorette Advisor of the Year Award, Kannapolis Junior Woman’s Club Rookie of the Year and Junior of the Year, Linda G. White Outstanding Junior of the Year Award and is an Honorary Life Member of GFWC-NC.
Georgann and her husband Jeff reside in Kannapolis where she is a Kindergarten-4th grade elementary art educator with the Kannapolis City Schools at Jackson Park Elementary School.
Silver Queen birthdays
The Silver Queen Strollers of Miller Center celebrated the 95th birthday of member Lola Evans with bowling at Woodleaf Lanes and a reception at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, given by her daughter,red hatter Florence Perry.
She presented family members and friends from out of town that came from California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and West Virginia. The Rev. and Mrs. William Neely from Maryland sang a tribute to Mrs. Evans and Nathaniel Thomas spoke on behalf of the church.
A delicious meal was prepared by chef Marvin Wood of Atlanta, Ga., son of red hatter Elnora Wood, and the blessing was given by Dr. Clary Phelps. There were about 135 guests present including red hat member Queen Mother Evelyn Clayborn, vice Queen Mother Jessie Childers, Annie Rivers, Vennie Geter, Betty Hutchin, Addie Hargraves, Idella Watkins and Phyllis Thumside.
Red hatter Katherine Smith turned 92 on her birthday, and she celebrated it at Golden Corral in Concord. Queen Mother Evelyn Clayborn and Elnora Wood celebrated their birthdays at Lexington Barbecue.
Spencer Women
SPENCER — Spencer Woman’s Club held their May meeting at the clubhouse on Thursday, May 10. Members learned about the State Annual Convention held in Greensboro on April 26-28, which was attended by board member Alane Mills who received the Lifetime Membership. SWC donated a wood framed Larkspur print to a silent auction for the international convention.
April Lamanno shared thoughts on home life. Jonnette Powell led a discussion on recruiting new members and acknowledging Memorial Day for Veterans and active military by decorating the clubhouse lawn with United States flags. Hostesses for the month were Marla Gobbel and Sherry Sides.
Women of Achievement awards
The Queen City Chapter of National Women of Achievement, Inc., held its Profiles of Prominence Awards and Scholarship luncheon on May 5 in Charlotte.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Alicia Joy McDowell and Donovan Dicks of Charlotte.
Achiever Levonia Corry of Salisbury is President of the Queen City Chapter of National Women of Achievement.
