SALiSBURY — A Fayetteville man faces drunk driving charges after striking another vehicle head on Sunday afternoon.
Trooper D.T. Sloop of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said Rusty Baggett, 33, was traveling north on Gheen Road in a 2002 Ford Expedition when he veered left of center and collided with a 2000 Chrysler minivan driven by Tammy Brown, 50.
Brown, of Eastway Lane, was pinned into her vehicle before being taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center. Robin Baltimore, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said Brown was transferred to another hospital, but she wasn’t sure which one.
A Gheen road resident who was mowing his lawn at the time of the accident pulled Baggett from his vehicle before it caught fire, Sloop said. He was transported to Rowan Region and then airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Sloop said neither one of their injuries appeared to be life threatening.
Baggett has been charged with driving while impaired, driving left of center and driving with no operator’s license, Sloop said.
According to Baggett’s Linkedin page, he is a medical operations non-commissioned officer for the United States Army at Fort Bragg.
