ROCKWELL — Two men were arrested after deputies found them in a truck behind a vacant house on Shuping Mill Road, authorities said.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, Clayton Travis Brown, 26, and Mark Haney, 54, were taken into custody after a suspicious vehicle was called in to authorities.
The back window of a home on Shuping Mill Road was shattered, deputies said, and they found a duffle bag with a hammer and pry tools inside.
But the two men told deputies they didn’t do anything.
Haney and Brown were charged with trespassing and felony possession of burglary tools.
They were each given $3,500 bonds.
Both men have extensive histories with the CorrectionsDepartment.
Haney has been convicted of six counts of larceny, among other charges, since 2001.
Brown was convicted in December of felony larceny, felony breaking and entering and felony larceny of a firearm.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, Brown broke into a home on Starnes Farm Road and stole jewelry and guns.
Brown fled when the homeowner returned. The stolen goods were found on the ground in nearby woods.
Deputies caught Brown shortly after on Bringle Ferry Road.
Once at the Sheriff’s Office, Brown was given additional charges after deputies said he tried to climb through the ceiling duct work, damaging the interview room.
A few days later, he was charged with stealing more than 300 vehicle starters and alternators from a salvage yard in Woodleaf.
Brown was given 36 months probation.
