Area sports briefs: Baseball moved to tonight

Staff reports
Carson, North Rowan and Davie all had playoff games postponed Tuesday and rescheduled for tonight.
Carson is at Northwest Cabarrus and North is on the road at YVC foe West Montgomery. Davie hosts Northwest Guilford.
• East Davidson defeated West Lincoln 9-2 Tuesday in the second round of the state 2A playoffs.
Tyler Stroupe had a grand slam and drove in five RBIs for East, who plays East Lincoln Friday.
• Mt. Pleasant’s second-round playoff duel with Hickory Ridge was suspended in the top of the fourth inning with HR up 5-4.
The game will resume today at the point of stoppage at Mt. Pleasant. The winner will take on South Rowan Friday in the third round.
Prep softball
Carson’s season ended in a 4-3 loss Tuesday to Central Cabarrus in the second round of the state 3A playoffs.
Sidney Grkman went 3-for-4 with a triple and two singles. Heather Yount and Jakey Clark had two hits apiece. Chloe Monroe and Jesse Beach each had singles.
Prep golf
West Rowan’s Jake Kennedy shot 74 in the second round of the 3A state championship to finish at 153 overall. Kennedy tied for 14th in the individual standings.
Pro baseball
The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Jerry Sands (Catawba) when star outfielder Matt Kemp had to be placed on the disabled list late Monday night with a hamstring issue.
Sands went 3-for-3 and hit his seventh homer for Albuquerque on Monday. He also threw out a baserunner from left field.
Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) helped the surprising New York Mets win again on Monday when he got two key outs in the eighth inning against Milwaukee.
Parnell has a 2.25 ERA in 16 appearances.
Wilmington’s Whit Merrifield (Davie) had two more hits on Monday and is now batting .300. Merrifield’s hits included his first triple of the season.
Catawba baseball
WSAT 1280 will cover all Catawba baseball games in the Division II Southeast Regional at Mount Olive this weekend. Jim Lewis will call the play-by-play while Dennis Davidson will do the color commentating.
College baseball
Preston Troutman (East Rowan) had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth for Appalachian State in the Moutaineers’ 5-3 win against Gardner-Webb Tuesday.
The win moved App to 37-12 overall.
Basketball camp
Falcon Basketball Camp for boys who will be grades 2-8 will be held at West Rowan High from 9 to noon daily from July 23-26.
The cost is $50 for four days of fun and instruction from coach Mike Gurley and West players.
There will be daily skill development, prizes and games.
Campers receive a Falcon T-shirt.

Rowan Razorbacks
The 12U Rowan Razorbacks won runner up honors in a recent tournament in Concord on April 28.
The Razborbacks defeated Mooresville Legends 5-0 and the New River Thunder 15-5.
