LANDIS — Multiple fire departments were called to a duplex fire Saturday night on Sheppard Plant Road.
The first calls about the fire at 480 Sheppard Plant Road came in around 8:39 p.m.
Atwell Township, Landis Fire, Rowan Rescue and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office were at the scene.
No official cause had been determined Saturday night.
Robin Sprinkle, who lives across the street, said she didn’t know the families that lived in the homes.
“I heard people screaming, car horns. I saw flames coming out the chimney. I freaked out,” she said.
She said some teens who attend church with her said they saw the flames and rushed toward the home, kicking the door in and calling out to see if anyone was inside.
It is not clear if anyone was at home at the time of the fire.
Sprinkle said she believed the teens called 911.
When Sprinkle was outside, she saw the windows burst.
Fire officials were unavailable for comment.
