SALISBURY — A 911 call about suspicious people in a neighborhood led officers to arrest a Salisbury teen for possession of burglary tools.
There had been numerous break-ins in the area and a caller told authorities there were three males walking in the area that didn’t live in the neighborhood. The three were walking near Maple Avenue and Queen Anne Road.
Dacoree Adarius Bennett, 17, was one of those three males. Bennett, of Mahaley Avenue, has been charged with felon possession of burglary tools and obstruct, delay an officer.
Officials found pry tools on Bennett and rubber kitchen gloves in his pockets.
The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Bennett told the Salisbury Police officer he always ditched his first block when asked why he wasn’t in school.
Bennett told the officer he decided to walk in the neighborhood.
Capt. Shelia Lingle said there have been numerous break-ins on the west side of town including along Horah and Monroe streets.
The police department has received calls about young, clean-cut males going door-to-door inquiring about ADT or AT&T.
When the men find a house where no one is there that’s when the break-ins occur.
Lingle encourages people who believe someone suspicious is at their door to call law enforcement.
Bennett was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center and has since been released under a $3,000 secured bond.
The two others with Bennett were not arrested.
