The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9 this evening for Rowan, Davie, Iredell, Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba and McDowell counties.
A watch means conditions are present for the development of thunderstorms containing high winds, heavy rain, frequent lightning and the possibility of hail.
No warnings have been issued. A warning means severe weather is occurring in the area.
