SALISBURY – Rowan Regional Medical Center has been named a 2012 Susan G. Komen for the Cure grant recipient.  
As a two-time recipient, the Rowan Breast Health Center has been awarded a $60,000 grant to provide education, mammograms, ultrasound, MRI, and biopsy to low-income, underinsured and uninsured women. We estimate as many as 100 women will benefit from this grant.
Rowan Regional opened the new Breast Health Center in May of 2011. The Rowan Breast Health Center is leading the fight against breast cancer using latest technology and a team of specialized experts including mammography technologists and radiologists who are board-certified and nationally accredited in mammography. 
Additionally, Jill McNeely, MSN, RN, BC, serves as the nurse navigator for the breast health center. Nurse navigators, as part of a multidisciplinary team are specially trained to educate and support patients and their families throughout their breast cancer treatment. Jill said, “As a breast health navigator one of the biggest challenges I face on a weekly basis is the lack of funding for screening and diagnostic mammography.  When choosing between feeding your children or grandchildren and having a screening mammography there is no choice.  This grant will eliminate that decision for many women.  We are excited to partner with Susan G. Komen for the Cure – Charlotte Affiliate to provide breast health education, screening and diagnostic tests for the women of Rowan County.”
 Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find a cure. 1.4 million dollars was awarded by the Susan G.
