SALISBURY — Authorities arrested a Salisbury man after two foot chases this morning near West Innes Street.
Salisbury Police said they caught a call about a man believed to be stealing copper. When they approached, the man ran away.
Capt. Shelia Lingle said Christopher Melton threw a bag of tools he was using to cut the air conditioning unit behind We Buy Gold in the 1300 block of West Innes Street.
Melton disappeared after a brief chase through Memorial Park Cemetery.
Patrol units searched the area and found Melton near Carolane Propane on West Innes Street a few minutes later.
He again fled on foot, police said, but was taken into custody.
Authorities recovered Melton’s bag near the business.
He was charged with felony larceny; felony possession of burglary tools; resisting, and delaying or obstructing a public officer.
He was in jail Wednesday afternoon under a $50,000 bond.
