Briefs roundup: Yoga, Faith 4th events, abuse prevention

SALISBURY — A yoga and meditation workshop for children ages eight to 12 will offer positive thinking skills and encourage self-confidence.
Salisbury fitness instructors Sacha Roberts and Jacqui Shive will teach the two-hour class from 1 to 3 p.m. April 28 in the parish hall at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 131 W. Council St. The cost is $30 per child with a discount for siblings.
The workshop will include active and fun yoga, simple meditation and a group discussion on how to think positively about ourselves and daily situations.
Information handouts will cover motor skills and physical fitness, developing an awareness of the senses, emotional growth and self-confidence and more.
Parent or guardian attendance is optional. Those who choose to attend are asked to participate.

Children should bring a yoga mat if they have one, or a towel if they don’t.
Task force holds information fair on preventing abuse
In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Domestic Violence Task Force of Rowan County is sponsoring a Preventing Violence Information Fair on April 27.
The event will be 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, building 400, room 4133.
Information booths will include Salisbury Police Department, Family Crisis Council of Rowan County, Department of Social Services, Legal Aid. Domestic Violence Task Force, Guardian ad litem and more.
Light refreshments and prizes are also part of the event.

Entries are now being accepted for the Faith 4th of July Parade.
The entry fee is $25 (exceptions are Legion Posts, veteran organizations and military groups.)

Faith Idol Contest open for registrations
Registrations are being accepted for the Faith Idol Contest, which is held during the Faith 4th of July Celebration.
Registration is $10. The age categories are: 12 and under; 13-18; 19 and up (adult).
