MT. ULLA — West Rowan got 10 goals from eight different scorers in defeating South Rowan 10-1 on Monday evening.  Toni Lucente hit the nets off of an Allison Baucom corner kick to start the scoring 61/2 minutes into the game.  Kelly Boley made it 2-0 less than a minute later on a Lucente assist and the rout was on.
“It is good to have a game in which lots of people get to play and score,” said Baucom.  “We are gearing up for the playoffs, and we need everyone, not just the starters, to be ready to play.”
Lucente scored three goals and three assists in total to lead the Falcons.  Also finishing were Rebecca Parker, Cassidy Arnsten, Mariah Coleman, Baucom, and Meredith Stanley.  Senior defender Mary McCachren scored her second career goal on her 18th birthday.
“That first game after spring break is always hard,” said McCachren.  “South just never let up, so we had to keep our focus even after we had a lead.  That will help us in the long run.”
Baucom added four assists, and Arnsten, Parker, and Coleman had one each.
The Raider goal came with 27:35 to play when Brooke Helms converted on a Brittany Goodman corner kick.
The Falcons (11-2-1, 8-0 NPC) will host East Rowan on Wednesday. The Raiders (1-10-1, 1-6 NPC)  will host North Iredell Wednesday.
