SPENCER — The Spencer Hometown Holidays Committee will hold its first Arbor Day 5K Fun Run/Walk on April 28.
The 5K Fun Run/Walk will take place in conjunction with the town of Spencer’s annual Arbor Day celebration at the Eighth Street ballpark. You don’t have to be a runner to participate. Walkers and strollers are welcome. The course will be mostly flat, with a few smooth, low-grade hills — still a good challenge for runners. Part of the course will include a portion of the Spencer Woods property.
People who want to participate can register now to pay the early registration fee of $22 and be guaranteed a T-shirt and goody bag.
Walkers and runners can register online at www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=2020695 .
On the day of the race, participants can register from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the North Rowan High School parking lot. However, the registration fee on the day of the event will be $30 and T-shirts are not guaranteed.
The start line will be at North Rowan High School. The finish line will be near the Eighth Street ballpark. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. Medals and prizes will then be awarded. A free raffle will be held for participants featuring donated gifts.
After the event, race participants can stay at the Eighth Street ballpark for the Arbor Day celebration. Transportation will be provided to take runners and walkers back to North Rowan High School.
More than 75 participants are expected.
All proceeds of the event will benefit Spencer Hometown Holidays community events.
