CHAPEL HILL (AP) — Leaders of the University of North Carolina’s governing body are exploring potential new partnerships in China.
The UNC Board of Governors hears a presentation Thursday from eight members who traveled to China last month with UNC System President Tom Ross and one of the system’s vice presidents.
UNC spokeswoman Joni Worthington says the trip explored the Chinese higher education system and economy, how UNC campuses are connected in China, and to explore partnerships.
Worthington says the group visited six universities and met with UNC alumni in China.
She says no state funds were spent on the trip. Worthington says all paid their own airfare to China, as well as meals and activities. Travel and lodging in China was paid by an agency affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education.
