SALISBURY — Police are asking for assistance to find two teens who are suspected of lighting a track mat on fire at Knox Middle School Monday.
Salisbury Police said two teens were seen smoking and lying on the mat shortly before it was engulfed in flames.
Officers are still searching for the two. No charges have been filed.
The mat is used during track season, police said, and was valued at $1,400. It was “completely destroyed,” the report said.
Fire crews were dispatched to the school about 7 p.m. Students are out of school this week for spring break.
Both suspects were wearing all black, police said. One had brown hair and the other had red hair. No other description was provided.
They were seen before the fire pushing a Food Lion cart on Park Road, police said. The cart was later found in a nearby creek.
They were last seen headed in the direction of Overton Elementary School.
Investigators were reviewing surveillance footage Tuesday morning.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
