SALISBURY — Overton Elementary recently hosted a spring Career Fair for the student body. Local professionals and volunteers told the students of their educational backgrounds and professions.
The fair was in conjunction with The Dream Program, organized by Krystal Kelly, the Site Coordinator at Overton for Communities In Schools of Rowan County. The program aims to teach students the values of doing well and excelling in school so they may become career-oriented later in life
Along with exploring college careers and trades, the program expresses values and morals of being respectful, responsible and self-disciplined.
Overton was happy to have amongst its participants Paul Woodson, mayor of Salisbury. He also was a guest speaker during February at the school.
Participants included representatives from Livingstone College, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Green Goat Gallery, Salisbury Fire Department, Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury Police Department, Food Lion and others.
Students were able to learn about dental hygiene, chemical engineering, X-ray and ultrasound technology, yoga instruction, duties of the police and fire departments, the process and values of attending college.
