SPENCER — The Easter Bunny showed up a little early to greet children Saturday at the N.C. Transportation Museum.
Families arrived at the museum’s Easter Bunny Express event for the chance to meet the long-eared bunny himself and enjoy other activities.
“There are lots of activities families can be involved in. It’s a great opportunity to spend a pleasant day with the family,” said Executive Director Sam Wegner.
It’s the first time the museum opened on Sunday for the summer season, Wegner said.
Lindy Pritchard and her husband, Stacy, traveled from Charlotte with sons, Liam, 3, and Liev, 15 months, for the first time.
“We’ve always wanted to bring them,” Lindy said as son Liam showed off his bunny sticker.
Rae and Ken Bush of Winston-Salem attended the event with children, Reid, 3, and 8-month-old Kate. It was also the family’s first visit.
The family receives emails about events at the museum and decided to stop.
Reid, who moved in his seat in anticipation for the Easter Bunny, has been waiting to see him, Rae said.
Reid was also excited to see the trains, which he loves, she said.
David Seward and son Kendall, 7, spent a father-son day at the Transportation Museum looking at the trains and participating in the activities.
The Sewards, who are also from Winston-Salem, spent hours at the museum.
“He’s never rode a train. We had a good time,” David said.
It was also their first time attending.
Next on the to-do list for Kendall was crafts, Kendall said.
Rene and Shane Asbury attended the day’s event with children Michael, 6, and Joshua, 3, to celebrate Joshua’s birthday, which was earlier this week.
“I saw it online,” Rene said of the event.
This weekend’s event continues today beginning with a 1:30 p.m. train ride. Tickets are $12 for ages 3 and older. Children 2 and younger are free.
There is still time to meet the Easter Bunny and take part in the Easter egg hunt next weekend.
On April 7, there will be the annual Easter egg hunt at 12:30 p.m.
Children will be divided into age groups.
