St. John’s Lutheran Cub Scout Pack 443
Cub Scouts of Pack 443 recently held their annual Pinewood Derby. The boys worked really hard on their cars and there were some really fast cars this year.
Individual den winners were:
Tigers – 1st place – William Engwall, 2nd place – Deven Rhodes, 3rd place – Ty Buechler;
Wolves – 1st place – Thomas Bristol, 2nd place – Gabriel Dufour, 3rd place – Aaron McGrail;
Bears – 1st place – Seamus Ratliff, 2nd place – Evan Selleck, 3rd place – Michael Hollar;
Webelos – 1st place – Blaine Shellhorn, 2nd place – Seth Fink, 3rd place – Brody Dillon;
Arrow of Light – 1st place – Harrison Parrott, 2nd place – Cole Hales, 3rd place – Brian Engwall.
The overall pack race winners were: 1st place – Thomas Bristol, 2nd place – Harrison Parrott, and 3rd place – Seamus Ratliff. Seamus Ratliff also won the award for best design.
Awards given in February were: Wolves – Thomas Bristol – Astronomy, Reading & Writing belt loops, Wolf rank badge, Riley Dillon – Wolf rank badge, Gabriel Dufour – Wolf rank badge, Rohan Jagarlumudi – Wolf rank badge, and Aaron McGrail – Wolf rank badge; Bears – All received their Bear achievement beads: Alex Blumenthal, Ben Blumenthal, Keith Corley, Michael Hollar, Jude Lockhart, Quinn Lockhart, Seamus Ratliff, and Evan Selleck; Webelos – Receiving Fitness pins: Luke Brady, Brody Dillon, Cole Dixon, Seth Fink, and Baron Wright; Blaine Shellhorn – Communicator, Craftsman, Fitness, Outdoorsman, Readyman, Scholar and Sportsman pins; Arrow of Light – Brian Engwall – Scientist & Weather pins, compass point, and weather belt loop; Jax Fitz – Scientist & Weather pins, Science and Weather belt loops; Cole Hales – Family Member, Outdoorsman, Scientist, Sportsman, Weather and Traveler pins, Archery, Baseball, Science and Weather belt loops, Bobcat badge; David Holden – Scientist & Weather pins, Science & Weather belt loops, Compass point; Harrison Parrott – Weather pin, Weather belt loop; Hans Roemer – Scientist pin, Science & Weather belt loops; Bo Rusher – Outdoorsman, Scientist, & Weather pins, Archery, Science and Weather belt loops, Compass point.
A “camp-in” was held Feb. 17th -18th at the church where the boys worked on their disabilities awareness and marbles belt loops and they watched the movie “October Sky”.
The big event for February was the annual Blue & Gold Banquet, which was held on Monday, February 27th. Congratulations to the following Arrow of Light boys, who progressed and moved up to Boy Scouts: Harrison Doby, Brian Engwall, Jax Fitz, Cole Hales, David Holden, Harrison Parrott, Hans Roemer, and Bo Rusher.
Congratulations to Tiger Cub Thomas Bristol, who received an Award of Merit from the Council at the January pack meeting for saving his little brother’s life. We are very proud of him!
Congratulations to Arrow of Light den leader and committee chair, Jake Parrott, who was awarded the Rowan County District Award of Merit for his volunteer work in scouting! He was given this award during the Central NC Council – Rowan District banquet that was held at St. John’s on February 2nd.
The Core Value for March is “Compassion” and the scouts will learn about being kind and considerate, and showing concern for the well-being of others.
Regular Monday night meetings will be held at St. John’s in March on the 5th, 12th, and 19th. (The Bear den meets from 6:30-7:30 pm and all of the other dens meet from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall). The pack meeting will be held on March 26th at 7:00 pm.
