GOLD HILL — Deputies believe two men posing as contractors stole an 86-year-old woman’s pocketbook Tuesday afternoon.
The two men arrived in a white pickup truck on Stokes Ferry Road about 2:30 p.m.
One of the men asked to come inside and measure her kitchen to help with her heating.
She declined, but the man said he could do it from the outside of the house.
The woman walked around the home with him to watch, a report said, and she believes the other man got out of the truck, went inside and stole her pocketbook.
The woman contacted authorities and the bank after realizing her pocketbook was missing from the couch.
Her Medicaid card, keys and about $60 in cash were also in the purse.
Investigators ask that anyone with information about the case contact the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
