Authorities have identified the Michigan couple killed in an airplane crash Friday in High Rock Lake.
They are Steve Bown and Karyn Martin. Bown is head of Performance Springs Inc., a company with ties to NASCAR.
An employee at the Davidson County Airport told the Post on Friday that Bown and Martin had left from Commerce Township, Mich. on Thursday and spent the night in Davidson County while conducting business there. They then took off around 1:15 p.m. Friday en route to Florida.
The airplane crashed into the lake near Tamarac Marina about 1:45 p.m. Emergency responders recovered Martin’s body on Friday but had to suspend efforts to recover Bown’s body after heavy fog rolled in. The recovery effort resumed this morning.
