SALISBURY — Corey Hill, a Democrat and local union president, filed Wednesday for Rowan County commissioner.
Hill, 41, of 420 Camelot Drive in Salisbury, is the seventh candidate so far running for two open seats on the Board of Commissioners. He is president of United Auto Workers Local 3520 at Daimler Trucks North America in Cleveland.
“I come to you as a conservative Democrat with strong moral beliefs and a strong fight to stand for American Labor,” Hill wrote in a prepared statement Wednesday. “I have spent the past year fighting for jobs and American workers and their rights.”
He said the county needs to improve its tax base and economy by innovating new ways to bring industry.
“It’s time to promote our county, and the infrastructure it has to offer,” Hill wrote.
The county also should further its “commitment and investment” in its schools, he said, and make sure education continues to be a part of Rowan County’s foundation.
“We need a leader who will work at advancing these issues that are so critical to our county’s future success,” Hill wrote. “We need a leader to keep it in the best interest of the people, and create a stronger larger middle class.”
Other candidates filing Wednesday include:
• Scott Keadle, a Republican, filed to challenge Democratic incumbent Rep. Larry Kissell in U.S. House District 8.
• Newcomer Dianne P. Berry and incumbent Doris H. Buchanan both filed for Kannapolis City Schools Board of Education.
