RCCC job fair March 21
KANNAPOLIS — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s career services will host a mini-job fair Wednesday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for students and alumni of RCCC at the RCCC Building, North Carolina Research Campus.
Employer space is limited to 18 booths. Employers must register to attend and are asked to either have job openings or expect to have job openings. Registration opened Feb. 6 and will close when the event is filled or 24 hours before the event. Register at http://www.collegecentral.com/rcccjobfair/. The Employability Labs in Salisbury and in Concord host a bi-monthly job fair for community members who have recently updated their skills by participating in training for computers, English, math and soft skills/personal effectiveness such as communication and interpersonal skills. Cannon School open house
Cannon School will host an admission open house on Saturday, Feb. 25, for families seeking to explore educational opportunities in grades junior kindergarten through 12. The event begins at 1 p.m. in Taylor Hall.
Visiting families will be able to tour the campus, speak one-on-one with parents and students about the school’s academic, arts, athletics and character education offerings, and learn more about the admission process.

“Our open houses are a great way to see first-hand what makes Cannon School such an ideal learning environment,” said Director of Admission Bill Diskin.
For parents unable to attend, Cannon also offers “Walk-in Wednesdays” to accommodate busy schedules. The admission office provides campus tours each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, no appointment necessary. Interested parents may also contact the admission office at 704-721-7199 to arrange an individual tour around their availability.
Jarrett Legion oratorical contest winners
Zachary Clark of South Rowan High School and Neil Emmett from Salisbury High School participated in the American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program District 19 Contest at Harold B. Jarrett Post in Salisbury recently.
Each prepared an eight- to 10-minute oration on the Constitution of the United States, emphasizing the duties and obligations of a citizen to the U.S. government.
Clark took first place, receiving $100 and a medal, with Emmett second, receiving $50 and a medal. The judges were Judge Thomas Seay, Salisbury Fire Chief Robert Parnell, the Rev. Richard Gross, Ann Tucker and Milton Iossi. Clark represented District 19 in the Division Contest held Feb. 11 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
College scholarships of $18,000, $16,000 and $14,000 will be awarded to the first through third places in the national finals, April 13-15 in Indianapolis.

Salisbury High open house moved to Feb. 21
Salisbury High School PTSA Open House is rescheduled from Monday, Feb. 20, to Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The change is necessitated by basketball playoff games scheduled at SHS on Monday. The open house will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium; thereafter, parents will rotate through their child’s schedule to meet the teachers and learn expectations for second semester.
