SALISBURY — A convicted rapist from Landis is in jail again after deputies accused him of raping a 15-year-old girl in 2010.
Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigators began looking into the case on Dec. 23, 2011, after the teenager’s mother contacted authorities.
Deputies arrested 38-year-old Jeffrey Alan Nunn at the Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 9, arrest reports said.
He was initially charged with failure to register as a sex offender, despite attempting to do so at the Sheriff’s Office that morning, because deputies said the time period for changing his address had elapsed.
Officers said Nunn had been notified by his probation officers prior to moving to Shallotte that he would need to register at the Sheriff’s Office.
His address was previously listed at 215 Everhardt Ave. in Landis.
After completing the investigation the following day, investigators charged Nunn with five counts of felony statutory rape of a 13-, 14- or 15-year-old.
Nunn threatened the girl by telling her he would “get her in trouble with her mom,” the report said, when the incidences occurred around October 2010.
Nunn was convicted in 2006 of four counts of felony second-degree rape and felony indecent liberties with a minor.
He was released from prison in September 2011.
Nunn remained in jail Wednesday morning under a $252,500 bond.
