EAST SPENCER — A town official says East Spencer may take action this week regarding two firefighters charged with misdemeanor assault last month.
“We’re still in midst of the investigation,” East Spencer Town Administrator Macon C. Sammons Jr. said today. “We’ll be glad to share the results when actions are taken … but we just aren’t there yet. I think it will be Friday or Monday.”
Investigators say two East Spencer firefighters shocked a junior firefighter, 18-year-old John Resino, nine times with a stun gun at a department Christmas party.
Acting Fire Chief Shane Cranfield and assistant fire chief Allen Carlyle had borrowed the Taser from on-duty police officer James Lambeth at the Dec. 10 party, according to Rowan County investigators.
Investigators said 40-year-old Lambeth, who was a part-time employee of the town, will be charged with misdemeanor failure to discharge duty. He resigned from the East Spencer Police Department on Dec. 15.
Deputies said Cranfield, 37, and Carlyle, 29, will also be charged with misdemeanor assault. Sammons said Wednesday that Cranfield is a part-time employee, and Carlyle is a volunteer firefighter with the town.
