SALISBURY — A China Grove woman who broke into a Rockwell home in November, raided the cookie jar and then fell asleep in the homeowner’s bed was given probation and ordered to enroll in a treatment program.
Authorities said Ashley Sedalia Haithcock was intoxicated when the incident occurred.
Martha Birtch called 911 when she came home and found the 26-year-old Haithcock in her bed.
A department report said Birtch saw her sliding glass door was open and a cookie jar inside the home was broken. When Birtch walked inside, she heard a woman’s voice and found Haithcock in her bed, under the covers.
Haithcock’s grandfather had reported her missing earlier that day. He told deputies Haithcock had been staying the weekend with him and became upset when he prohibited her from drinking alcohol at his home.
Haithcock assaulted Birtch’s daughter while at the home. After being taken into custody, Haithcock kicked three deputies as they tried to speak with her.
Haithcock was charged with breaking and entering, three counts of assault on a government official or employee, simple assault and injury to personal property, all misdemeanors.
Haithcock was sentenced in Rowan County District Court, where she received 75 days in the N.C. Department of Correction, which was suspended to 18 months of supervised probation.
Haithcock must enroll in the Recovery Ventures Corporation Program or another state-approved inpatient facility, not possess any pills, controlled substances or alcohol.
She must also pay $435 in court costs and fines, complete 50 hours of community service and stay away from Birtch and her daughter.
The court dismissed the injury to personal property charge. Haithcock pleaded guilty to the other charges.
