From staff reports
North Rowan’s basketball teams are at home tonight, with the Cavalier boys seeking to take a big step toward another YVC championship.
North (9-2, 5-0) entertains South Davidson (10-3, 4-1), which is tied with Albemarle for second place in the league standings.
North prevailed 52-50 and 64-61 in two tense meetings with the Wildcats last season.
North won the YVC in 2010 with a 15-1 record and went 14-2 to share the crown with Albemarle last spring. In school history, dating back to the 1958-59 season, North has never captured three straight regular-season conference titles.
North’s girls (4-6, 4-1) will take on South Davidson (6-6, 3-2) in the opener of the doubleheader at 6 p.m.
The Cavaliers split regular-season meetings with the Wildcats last year. South Davidson finished in sixth place in the YVC, but it won the conference tournament and bumped North, which finished fifth, out of a playoff berth.
North’s Teaunna Cuthbertson was tough for the Wildcats to handle last season. She scored 19 and 20 in the two meetings.
A.L. Brown teams are home tonight for SPC games against Mount Pleasant. The varsity girls should start around 6:30 p.m.
