The A.L. Brown boys defeated Independence 59-54 Thursday night to advance to the championship game of tonight’s Christmas tournament being held at Cox Mill.
The game was nip and tuck until the fourth quarter. The Wonders trailed by two at halftime and by one after three quarters. But Derrick Copeland hit three 3s in the fourth quarter to help pull away from Independence.
Copeland led A.L. Brown (6-4) with 14 points while Keeon Johnson finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and hauling in 10 rebounds.

South Rowan freshman Davis Richards scored a Hole in One at Pinehurst Course Number One, during the Donald Ross Junior Championship. Richards used a 9- iron on the 165-yard par 3 seventh hole to record his second hole in one in the past 24 days. Richards had two consecutive competitive rounds with a hole in one. Richards shot 74, 71 to finished tied for first place in the 12-14 year old division.
