Man faces more charges after arrest

SALISBURY — What started as three breaking and entering charges snowballed this week after a Mitchell Avenue man’s arrest.
Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigators said they received several calls over the week after details emerged about 30-year-old David Matthew Allen’s arrest.
On Dec. 23, deputies arrested Allen, of 411 Mitchell Ave., and said they believed he was involved in several other burglary cases around the county.
He was initially charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering and felony larceny.
Allen was charged earlier this week with an additional 21 counts of felony breaking and entering into vehicles, four counts of felony breaking and entering into buildings, three counts of felony larceny, four counts of misdemeanor larceny and two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses.
Investigators said Allen’s white Dodge Nitro was spotted by neighbors at burglary victims’ homes prior to the break-ins.
The report said Allen was involved in break-ins on Mooresville Road, Sherrills Ford Road and others in Salisbury.
His bond has been increased to $110,000.

Gunman forces his way into home
SALISBURY — A gunman forced his way into a Cedar Drive apartment on Christmas Eve and pointed a gun at a woman and her daughter.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, a man knocked on the door of the apartment about 6 p.m.
When the boyfriend of one of the residents opened the door, the report said, the man struck him in the face with the handgun and went inside.
The man then pointed the gun at the home’s owner and her daughter and asked where the money was.
The woman said she didn’t have any money, the report said, and the man quickly searched the home before running back out the front door.
No money was reported stolen during the incident.
The man was last seen getting into what is believed to be a brown, four-door Chevrolet Blazer with tinted windows.
It was last seen traveling in the direction of Airport Road.
Deputies are continuing to investigate the incident.
Second man on most wanted list arrested
KANNAPOLIS — An anonymous tip lead to the arrest of a second Rowan County Sherriff’s Office Most Wanted offender in under a week.
Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Chad Moose said deputies got wind of Kenneth Anthony’s location after a Salisbury Post reader saw Anthony’s photo and description online.
Anthony, of 309 N. Meriah St., was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender and failure to appear in court.
Deputies said officers found Anthony on Tuesday at 712 Evelyn Ave. in Kannapolis during a search of the home about 5 p.m.
Anthony was in jail Wednesday morning under a $6,000 bond.
The 35-year-old’s arrest is the 20th since the list’s creation last December.
China Grove Police arrested accused rapist Josue Espinoza Ramos on Dec. 23.
Ramos, 21, was identified by a bystander at Dollar General on U.S. 29 South.
Ramos and his mother, Emma Lopez, were arrested at the store.
Lopez was charged with obstructing police after officers said she tried to give fake names to thwart Ramos’ arrest.
Ramos was charged with statutory rape, obstructing police and failing to appear. He was placed under a $260,000 bond.
N.C. State student from Salisbury faces drug charges
RALEIGH — According to a report in the Raleigh News and Observer, an N.C. State University student from Salisbury was charged Tuesday with growing psilocybin mushrooms.
Nathan Ryan Compton, 19, of 260 Joy Circle in Salisbury, was charged with one felony count each of manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for a controlled substance.
He told the officer that the plants were no good because he did not properly cultivate them.
Police also charged Compton with one misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia, according to arrest warrants filed Tuesday at the Wake County Magistrate’s Office.
Police charged Compton after the mushrooms were found growing in a dish at his Raleigh residence at 2023 Ocean Reef Place.
Officers also found a glass pipe, a plastic inhalation device and rolling papers inside the home, court records show. Compton does not have a prior criminal history, according to court records. He was being held at the Wake County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
