SALISBURY — A woman has been charged with drunken driving after wrecking her car Friday night, injuring herself, her mother and her 4-year-old daughter.
Erika Nicole Baker, 21, of 225 Dulin Ave., was traveling southeast on the 600 block of Roseman Road at about 60 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone, said Trooper K.G. Barringer with the N.C. Highway Patrol.
As she was coming out of a curve in the 700 block, Baker apparently ran off the road, overcorrected and then left the roadway, Barringer said. Her vehicle struck two trees before coming to rest against a house just before 10 p.m. Friday.
Her mother, 43-year-old Jane Merritt, also of 225 Dulin Ave., sat in the front seat. The driver and passenger were pinned in the car and had to be cut out, and emergency crews freed them at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.
The women were flown in two helicopters to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Baker had a broken leg, broken ribs and a fractured wrist. Merritt suffered a lacerated liver and some broken bones. Baker was listed in fair condition and Merritt was listed in good condition Monday night.
The four-year-old girl in the backseat was not secured properly, Barringer said, but she only sustained minor injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Rowan Regional Medical Center with some scrapes, cuts and bruises.
Baker was charged with driving while intoxicated, and other charges are pending. Merritt also was reported to be intoxicated.
