EAST SPENCER — The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will receive an update Monday on progress toward a proposed downtown central office.
Last month, the board agreed to seek approval from the Rowan County Board of Commissioners to move forward with the plan.
The board will also be requesting written approval from the Salisbury City Council to build a three-story, 62,000-square-foot central office facility on Main Street. The city owns the parcel of land.
Randy Hemann, executive director of Downtown Salisbury Inc., has said the city is willing to donate the land, valued at $200,000. He has also said the city will provide parking for the building.
City Council has yet to receive any sort of formal presentation about the land and parking for the proposed central office.
During Monday’s meeting, board members will also:
• Vote on the proposed 2012-13 school calendar;
• Be asked to approve three local option goals as required by the state’s ABCs acceptability programs;
• Receive a bus inspection and efficiency rating report;
• Receive a report on energy usage and efficiency; and
• Hear about updates to the high school curriculum guide for the upcoming school year.
The school board meets at 5 p.m. at the Long Street Administrative Offices, 110 S. Long St., East Spencer.
