SALISBURY — A Salisbury man allegedly punched a firefighter last week while being transported to the hospital.
According to Salisbury Police, Allen Eugene Billings, 1225 Celestial Drive, assaulted Salisbury firefighter Chris Damato while emergency crews were responding to an unknown medical call.
Authorities found Billings lying on the floor of a motel room on Bendix Drive on Dec. 9.
Billings was being placed onto a transport stretcher, the report said, when he “became agitated and struck a firefighter on the side of his face with a closed fist.”
After being taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center, Billings was charged with felony assault on emergency personnel.
He was in jail on Thursday under a $5,000 bond.
The report indicated that Damato had only minor injuries after the assault.
