A collision on the northbound Interstate 85 bridge over the Yadkin River snarled traffic Thursday afternoon.
The crash just before 2 p.m. involved two cars and a dump truck.
At least one person was trapped in a vehicle. Rescuers struggled to get to the scene on the bridge. Two people were taken for treatment by ambulance.
Traffic was stopped until the wreckage was cleared about 3 p.m.
Vehicles moved slowly past construction of a new section of the interstate and new bridges to replace the existing twin spans built in 1955, which routinely rank among the state’s most dangerous bridges.
