A 17-year-old girl died this afternoon in a single-vehicle crash off N.C. 150.
She was a passenger in a car driven by another 17-year-old and carrying three children under the age of five. All were injured and taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast.
The Highway Patrol is not yet releasing names.
A reporter on the scene said the Chevy Blazer in which the five were riding appeared to have turned over several times and hit a utility pole.
The SUV ended up in the yard of a house on Moore Haven Drive, which is between Briggs and Patterson roads, west of Salisbury.
The girl who died was thrown from the vehicle. Three passersby attempted to revive her with CPR but were not successful.
A 4- or 5-year-old boy was out of the car when people arrived. The two other children were in car seats.
Locke Fire Department and Rowan EMS responded to the call.
