A Salisbury man once involved with work on High Rock Raceway is in jail after deputies said he intended to sell more than 15 pounds of marijuana.
Rowan County investigators said they tracked a large shipment of marijuana to Marvin Douglas Thomas, 2220 Long Ferry Road.
Deputies stopped Thomas’ vehicle near the intersection of Old Union Church Road and Interstate 85 Friday afternoon.
Thomas, 44, and longtime girlfriend, Bonnie Sue McIntosh, were in the vehicle, along with three and a half pounds of “high-grade” marijuana, investigators said.
They were immediately arrested.
Investigators said they then got a search warrant and raided a warehouse off of Andrews Street in East Spencer. Deputies found an additional 12 pounds in the warehouse.
McIntosh, of 316 Grant St., Spencer, was charged with felony conspiring to sell marijuana and felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana. She was in jail under a $250,000 bond on Monday.
Thomas received those same charges, along with a felony trafficking in marijuana charge.
He was in jail Monday under a $500,000 bond.
Thomas, a partner of F.C. Development LLC, was hired in 2010 as a contractor for grading and demolition of the former N.C. Finishing plant on N.C. 29 in Spencer.
The 44-year-old said he was given a share of High Rock Properties in lieu of payment for work on the project, but that the ownership share disappeared about a year later when a new ownership document was issued.
According to records from the Secretary of State’s Office, Thomas is the owner of House of Shoes, a Mooresville business.
The raid was the second large marijuana bust Rowan County investigators have made in less than a month.
On Nov. 10, deputies raided a Kannapolis home and found more than 10 pounds of pot.
