East Spencer will swear in new mayor

EAST SPENCER — The town of East Spencer will swear in its new mayor and alderman at its meeting Monday.
Barbara Mallett will take the place of Mayor John Cowan, who did not run for re-election this year.
On the six-member town board, Curtis Cowan will be seated as Alderman Carlton Ellis steps down.
The East Spencer Town Board of Aldermen will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the aldermanic chambers at the town hall, 105 South Long St., East Spencer.
Also at the meeting, there will be public hearings concerning amendments to the personnel ordinance, a new surplus items ordinance and the meeting schedule for the Board of Alderman.
Town Manager Macon Sammons Jr. said Wednesday that the board had adopted a dress code resolution, but aldermen decided instead to include it in a personnel ordinance.
The board also asked town staff to prepare an ordinance dealing with how to declare and dispose of surplus property, Sammons said.
Finally, he said, alderman are considering moving their meeting time from 6:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., which was their previous meeting time. Town board meetings are regularly held on the first Monday of every month.
