Charles Shoaf, owner of the tree cutting service “Chuck” Woodchucking Service, who was injured this morning when a falling tree limb hit him on the head is in critical condition this afternoon at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

At the incident this morning, employee Mike Thomas said, “It was too late. I didn’t see him. I don’t know why he walked under me when he heard the chainsaw running.”
The employee had been cutting a series of limbs from a tree, and Shoaf was taking a rope around to the other side when he was hit. Shoaf was on the ground and Thomas was in the tree.
The accident took place at 7875 Rob Ward Road, off N.C. 52, between Rockwell and Granite Quarry.
An ambulance took him to the VA Medical Center, where a helicopter from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center was expected.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office remained on the scene talking to those involved.
