A China Grove man and his girlfriend were charged Wednesday afternoon after deputies say the man lied about his girlfriend being at his apartment.
The woman, 25-year-old Brittany Burris, was wanted by Kannapolis Police on several drug-related charges and was believed to be at the man’s 214 Old Rockwell Road apartment.
When officers arrived, they spoke with a neighbor who said they saw her go into the apartment with her boyfriend, 35-year-old John Knox Hillman III.
Deputies knocked on the door, but when Hillman answered, he said she wasn’t there and declined to let officers search the home.
A Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy told the man that a neighbor had witnessed her go into the residence shortly before and that he would get a search warrant if necessary.
Deputies reported that Hillman said, “Go get your warrant,” before shutting the door.
The deputy drove to the magistrate’s office to get the warrant when he was contacted by a fellow officer telling him that Burris and Hillman had just left the apartment.
Both were arrested at the scene.
Burris was charged with two counts of felony possession of heroin, felony trafficking heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for storing drugs.
She was given a $125,000 bond.
Hillman was charged with two counts of resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer.
He was given a $4,000 bond. Both were in jail on Thursday.
