Investigators say Old Yadkin School was set afire

The Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office has confirmed that the fire that leveled the Old Yadkin School Building was set.
Investigators said they can not call it an arson because they do not know if the building was intentionally set. The building was part of the old Colortex (N.C. Finishing) plant.
Investigator Deborah Horne said people may have been staying inside the building and accidently spread the fire.
“We know that it was a set fire,” Horne said. “It’s still under investigation with us and Spencer Police Department.”
The Fire Marshal’s Office asks that anyone with photos of the interior or exterior of the building call Horne at 704-216-8917.
