Area sports briefs: Pfeiffer men win

The Pfeiffer men’s basketball team put five players in double figures and whipped Virginia State 76-58 on Monday.
Josh Humphrey had 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Falcons (3-1). Virginia State remained winless.
Danny Smith scored 18 points, while K.C. Anuna added 17 for Pfeiffer.
Pfeiffer shot 54 percent in the second half.
The Falcons will head south for the Thanksgiving holiday with a pair of contests in Florida against Barry and Lynn.
Local golf
Keith Dorsett had a hole-in-one at Corbin Hills on Saturday.
Dorsett used an 8-iron on the 162-yard 13th hole. Witnessing the feat were Perry Von Cannon, Michael Dorsett and Greg Hill.
Brown runs half-marathons
Chance Brown, an eighth-grader at Erwin, competed this fall in two half-marathons.
In the Run the Valley event in Badin, he placed first in his age group and 13th out of 94 overall with a time of 140:59. He was 10th among male runners.
In the United Healthcare event in High Point, he placed second in the 14-19 age group with a time of 142:32. He was 46th out of 489 runners overall and finished 35th among males.
College swimming
Catawba swim teams competed in the Wingate Fall Frenzy at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center over the weekend.
The men finished sixth out of 10 teams and the women placed seventh out of 11 in the competition.
Katia Kruglov won the 200 backstroke in 2:05.15 and placed third in the 100 back (58.79) and 200 free (1:55.33). All three times were school records. Her time in the 200 back was the second-best this season in Division II.
On the men’s side, Andrew McCollister (Salisbury) broke a school record in the 1650 free (16:36.36) and finished seventh. He also placed third in the 400 IM (4:14.60).
The swim team’s next competition will be at home on Dec. 3 with a dual meet against the Pfeiffer Falcons.
